Using Drop-downs

Using Drop-down Menus

Menus for choosing or hiding fields (columns)

Throughout Omniscope, there are many drop-down menus enabling the file publisher to manage the visibility of fields (columns) in user-selectable lists. Beginning with version 2.5, the field selection drop-down menus have been standardised and improved to help you find, choose and show/hide less useful fields (columns) to improve performance and prevent users from seeing inappropriate or uninformative fields as options on View/Device drop-downs.

You will find the improved field selection and management drop-down menus in several places:

  • Main Toolbar - the Colour button allows you to pick a field, and all views will update to colour their displays by that field.
  • Main Toolbar: Settings > Tooltips > Fields allows you to pick multiple fields, and their values appear in tooltips (when your mouse hovers over a view element).
  • Table View: View Toolbar: Group  allows you to pick one or more fields and the Table View groups records by the values of those fields.
  • Pivot View: Value allows you to pick either "Number of records" or a field. If you choose a field, Value > Function allows you to pick the measure function used to calculate the value for multiple records - mean, sum, etc.

This page describes:

  • The top-level drop-down option menus on the Main Toolbar which affect all views
  • The principles of View Toolbar buttons and data titles
  • How to use the different kinds of drop-downs

For help with the drop-downs specific to a given View Toolbar, consult the Views Reference for the relevant view.

Main Toolbar data drop-downs - Colour

The Colour button is the only data drop-down on the Main Toolbar. It allows you to pick a field from all the fields in your file, and then applies application-wide data colouring to all views with that capability.  To revert, select "None" which will remove the application-wide colouring setting.
